A Taste of Milan: Easter Season

Easter in Milan is a time of rituals, spring light and some of the best seasonal food in the city. If you're in Milan for the holidays — or just looking for an excuse to explore its best food addresses — here is how the city celebrates.

Colomba: The Easter Cake

The colomba is to Easter what the panettone is to Christmas — a dove-shaped leavened cake with candied orange peel and an almond glaze. The best artisan versions come from Pasticceria Marchesi, Sant Ambroeus and Vergani, Milan's oldest family pasticceria. Book early — the best ones sell out by Good Friday.

Artisan Chocolate

Milan has a growing number of excellent cioccolaterie. Cioccolati Italiani offers handcrafted Easter eggs in unusual flavor combinations. For something truly special, Amedei and Domori chocolates are available at gourmet food shops across the city.

Spring Flowers

April in Milan also means the beginning of the flower market season. Don't miss Orticola, Europe's most glamorous flower and plant fair, which typically takes place in the city's Indro Montanelli Gardens in late spring.

Easter Monday: Gita Fuori Porta

Pasquetta (Easter Monday) is traditionally spent outside the city. The Lake Maggiore area and the Parma countryside are popular escapes from Milan for a day in nature.
