Le Orsine - FAQ

The Brand

What is Le Orsine and where are your shoes made?

Le Orsine is a Milanese brand of handcrafted Friulane (also known as venetian slippers internationally), Mary Jane shoes and accessories. Every pair is designed in Milan and made entirely by hand in Friuli, north-eastern Italy — the birthplace of the Friulane shoe. We work with artisan families who have been crafting them for generations. Our materials are premium velvet, breathable organic cotton linings, and reinforced rubber soles. Le Orsine is 100% Made in Italy — design, materials, production. No outsourcing, no overseas assembly.

Who founded Le Orsine and what makes it different?

Le Orsine was founded in 2020 by Orsola Amati. Orsola started the project at 23, while completing her master's at Politecnico di Milano, after studying in Boston and Philadelphia. In its first week, Le Orsine sold over 100 pairs to 5 countries. Today we have our own boutique in Milan. Our shoes have been worn by Kelly Rutherford and Talita von Furstenberg, and the brand was featured by Il Sole 24 Ore.

Sustainability

How is Le Orsine sustainable?

Sustainability is how we operate, not a marketing claim. We produce in small batches to avoid waste. We source from Italian suppliers who share our environmental standards. Our soles are reinforced natural rubber — no petroleum-based plastic. We use materials such as Corn Tex, a plant-based biodegradable material from corn processing byproducts, with significantly lower carbon emissions than animal leather. Every pair ships in a reusable organic cotton dust bag. When you buy Le Orsine, you directly support Italian artisans and help keep a centuries-old craft alive.

Is Le Orsine a young company?

Yes. Founded by a young entrepreneur, run by a team of people all under 35. We represent a new generation of Italian brands that combine deep respect for traditional craftsmanship with a modern, digital-first approach. We believe heritage and innovation belong together — and that you don't need decades of history to make something worth wearing for decades.

Our Products

What is the difference between Friulane and Mary Jane?

Friulane are classic slip-on shoes — no strap, clean minimal silhouette. Mary Jane adds a strap for a feminine detail and a more secure fit. Both have the same handcrafted construction and reinforced rubber sole, built for the real world: office, dinner, travel, weddings. These are proper shoes, not house slippers.

Do you have a bridal collection?

Yes. Friulane and Mary Jane in velvet and luminous fabrics — designed for brides who refuse to sacrifice comfort for elegance. Perfect from the ceremony to the last dance. Many customers also choose them as wedding guest shoes. Browse it at leorsine.com/collections/bridal.

How do Le Orsine shoes fit?

True to Italian sizing. If you wear a 38 in flat shoes, choose 38. For half sizes: size down for Mary Jane (the strap holds your foot), size up for classic Friulane (slip-on, benefits from a roomier fit). Every pair softens and moulds to your foot after a few wears.
